Probiotics are live microorganisms (in most cases, bacteria) that are similar to beneficial microorganisms found in the human gut. They are also called “friendly bacteria” or “good bacteria.”

Pre-biotic helps in the growth and activity of Probiotics.

PREBIOTICS are non-digestible food ingredients that benefit your body by stimulating the growth and activity of the Probiotic bacteria. In other words, Prebiotics are food that stimulates the activities of Probiotic bacteria. (Fibers from fruits and vegetables serve as Pre-biotic).

Benefits of Probiotics for you and your baby.

Protection of gastro intestinal tract: While the majority of deaths occur amongst children in developing countries,it is estimated that up to 30% of the population even in developed countries are affected by food-borne diarrhea each year. Probiotics can potentially provide an important means to reduce these problems.

Enhance immune system: The Probiotic bacteria also work in tandem with your baby’s immune system to support and enhance its effectiveness. Probiotics help fight off infections like urinary tract infection etc in you and your baby.

Helps to fight allergy: The probiotics also help in the reduction of allergy in your and your  baby’s body.

The type of bacteria in your baby’s gut depends on the baby’s feed: Just before birth, the intestine of the newborn is sterile. But gradually, with the exposure to environment, and milk feeds bacteria start to grow in the babies gut. The type of bacteria that colonize depends upon the type of feed that the baby gets.

Probiotics improve the function in intestines and also provide gentle stimulation of the immune system. The early establishment of Probiotic microflora in the intestine of your baby is therefore of paramount importance.

Probiotics is important during pregnancy and lactation period.

Presence of Probiotics in the mother’s diet during pregnancy and lactation highly influences the development and composition of the microflora in the baby’s body and her immune response to pathogens.

Probiotics during pregnancy strengthens the immunity of the baby. Presence of Probiotics during pregnancy and breast-feeding strengthens the immunity of your baby.  It also provides protection against atopic eczema during the first 2 years of life.

Probiotics help in synthesis of vitamin K and control diarrhea. Probiotic bacteria help to boost the immunity of your baby apart from synthesizing vitamin K in their bodies.

Probiotic is important for the healthy growth of your baby. It is equally important during pregnancy and lactation. It is an important component of our healthy well beings and is of high significance for mothers and babies. Therefore intake of pre-biotic and probiotics should be encouraged in pregnant and nursing mothers as well as in kids.
