Why Does Overdue Pregnancy Happen?
Well, sometimes it may be possible that your due date was just not calculated correctly. Your due date is calculated based on the first day of your last menstrual period. However, most women cannot remember the exact day of their last menstrual period which makes it hard to predict due date.

How is Overdue Pregnancy Handled?

If your labour does not start by the time you are at 41 weeks of pregnancy (that is 1 week overdue), your doctor will do a few tests to check whether your baby is healthy. These tests include non-stress test and an ultrasound scan The non-stress test monitors your baby’s heart rate and movements,2 whereas  ultrasound scanning is done to observe your baby’s movements and to find out how your baby is growing and developing.

In case of all women whose pregnancy reaches between 41 and 42 weeks, since health risks of overdue pregnancy is higher, labour is induced. For women who are older than 40 years, labour is induced as early as 39 weeks
