Through the Maternity Benefits Act of 1961, the Indian government provides benefits to and preserves the rights of pregnant women. By law:

You are entitled to a total of 12 weeks of paid maternity leave, of which up to 6 weeks can be taken before delivery and 6 weeks post-delivery.

You can avail up to a month of sick leave if the illness is related to your pregnancy.

From 10 weeks before due date, you cannot be made to engage in laborious work, stand for long periods or do any work that may harm your pregnancy.
