Besides affecting both of you, it has been found that the quality of your relationship with your husband can affect a number of aspects of your baby’s early development.
Here are some tips to help you manage your post-baby relationship with your husband:
Connect: Spend at least 5–10 minutes every day with your husband, maybe over a cup of tea, to find out how he’s doing.
Communicate: Talk about things other than the baby.
Involve: Let you husband feel part of the world that is now you and your baby. Involve him in little chores like changing diapers or deciding on what things to buy for the baby.
Show affection: Don’t be shy about showing affection towards your husband just because the baby’s there.
Alone time: Take time at least once a week to spend some quality time with your husband – maybe on weekends when the baby is asleep. If you have your parents or other help at home you can even go out on a coffee date or a short walk outside.
In the excitement of being a new mom, don’t forget your husband. Give some time and effort and be a yummy mummy.
