How do You Know that Your Child has Diarrhea

(0 reviews)

As your child grows, he/she may pop in each and everything in her mouth. This increases the chance of getting diarrhoea or stomach infection.

Diarrhoea mainly occurs due to infection of intestine such as food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Viral infection is the most common cause. The lining of the intestine becomes inflamed and irritated due to infection. This blocks the absorption of water from food waste. In severe diahrroea, water may leak from the lining.

Let’s have a look what to watch for:

Call your doctor if you notice signs of dehydration such as, dry and sticky mouth, few tears, fewer wet diapers, sunken eyes, and lethargy in your little one.

  • Frequent watery stools and tummy cramps: This is the most common sign of diarrhoea. Your child may pass 3 or 4 loose, unformed stools in a day.
  • Smelly Stools
  • Nausea, Vomiting, and Dehydration: Diarrhea causes loss of fluids
from the body in form of vomiting and loose stools. This may cause your child’s skin to
    appear dry and dehydrated.
  • Tiredness, loss of appetite and weight loss: Because you kid is not able to eat well due to stomach pain or nausea,
he may be more tired and hence more cranky than usual.

In case of viral infections, fever and vomiting occurs first, followed by diarrhea. If the diarrhoea is due to non-infectious reasons such as food allergies, lactose intolerance, or other diseases of the stomach, then it may last several weeks or longer.

Your toddler will be fit and fine in a matter of few days, if you carefully watch the signs of diarrhea and manage it well to avoid dehydration.
