Here are few pointers that help you calm down and go through the process smoothly.
Try these to calm your worries:
Read about what to expect during labour. Read books and magazine articles about giving birth. If you know what to expect during labour, you won’t be as frightened as your contractions intensify and become more frequent.
Talk to your husband and family. Talk to your husband about what worries you and let him know what you want him to help you with.
It will be over soon. The average length of labour is 14 hours for first-time mothers—and most of that is in the relatively easy first stage of labour. Also remind yourself that the memory of labour pain is erased as soon as you get to hold your baby in your arms.
Seek support. Talk to a friend, family member, counsellor or other mothers. Share your concerns with them.
Ask your doctor for anaesthesia if you want. There are anaesthetics available that are considered safe for you and your baby when given at moderate levels.
Remember that mothers throughout the ages have given birth successfully. You just need to be calm and confident. The joy of giving birth to your baby is more than anything else.
