Your husband or the child’s grandparents would be the best choice to provide care in your absence. Grandparents have the baby’s best interest at heart and can provide a loving and safe environment.1 However, it is best to prepare them before you leave them alone with your baby.
Let them know about your baby’s routine:
- Time for next feed
- Any specific instructions post-feeding
- Next nap-time
- Bed-time ritual
Make sure your family has the pediatrician’s number, just in case they cannot reach you in an emergency.
Familiarize them with your baby’s temperament as you may know it best:
- What to do if the baby cries a lot
- What to do if the baby is restless
- What games or songs the baby likes
- What toys the baby likes to play with
Show them the location of all the baby’s things that they may need while you are away:
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Clothes
- Toys
