How to Deal with Mild Side-Effects due to Vaccination?

After vaccination, make sure that you pay close attention to your child for the first few days. If you observe anything that concerns you, don’t hesitate to call your doctor.

Here are some tips to mange mild side-effects of vaccination in your child:

  • If your child develops fever after the vaccination, check with your doctor. He or she may prescribe paracetamol. A cool sponge bath can also help reduce fever.
  • If your child experiences redness, soreness and swelling at the site of injection, apply cold compress or a cold wet cloth at the site of injection.
  • Making your child move or use the limb that has received the injection will also help in reducing soreness.
  • If you notice any rash on your child’s body and there are no other symptoms, treatment is not required. The rash generally gets resolved within a few days.
  • If you notice that your child is eating less after getting vaccines, don’t worry, it is normal for some children to eat less during the first 24 hours after getting vaccines. You can give him or her lots of liquids such as soups, fresh vegetable or fruit juices, porridge, etc.
